Janu Sirsasana is known as the head-to-knee pose. It is a spinal twist and forward bend for all levels of practitioners.
This asana calms the brain, improves digestion, and relieves mild depression, anxiety, fatigue, headache and menstrual discomfort. This process stretches the spine, shoulders, hamstrings and groins. Janu Sirsasana stimulates the liver and kidneys. It is also advisable for pregnant women (up to second trimester) to strengthen their back muscles.
Preparatory poses of this asana include Adho Mukha Svanasana, Baddha Konasana, Balasana,
Supta Padangusthasana,
Uttanasana and
Vrksasana. Subsequent pose is seated forward bends.
Janu Sirsasana is a Sanskrit word in which 'janu' means 'knee,' 'sirsa' means 'head,' and 'asana' means 'pose.'
