Preparatory poses consists of Adho Mukha Svanasana, Janu Sirsasana, Paschimottanasana and Supta Padangusthasana. Subsequent Poses are standing poses, inversions and seated forward bends.
In Sanskrit, ‘ut’ stands for ‘intense’ and ‘tan’ means ‘to stretch.’ Uttanasana means 'intense stretch pose.' It is also referred as 'standing forward bend.'
