Vrksasana improves sense of balance, and strengthens thighs, calves, ankles and spine. The process stretches the groins and inner thighs, chest and shoulders.
Vrksasana is effective for sciatica and flat feet. Baddha Konasana, Utthita Trikonasana and Virabhadrasana II are preparatory poses. Subsequent poses include standing poses.
In Sanskrit, 'Vrksa' means 'tree'. The pose is also referred as 'tree pose.'
