Bandha is a yogic feature, a term used in
Hatha Yoga. Bandha may be defined as an action putting pressure or strain on the muscles. A firm pose is to be retained in bandha, as it is retained in the asanas. The bandhas are to be studied mainly while studying pranayama.
Bandhas are classified under Mudras (yogic hand poses). Bandha (meaning lock/hold) is described in
‘Hatha Yoga Pradipika.’
There are three types of Bandhas. They are,
Jalandhara Bandha,
Uddiyana Bandha, and
Mula Bandha. These Bandhas are superior yogic practices, which need to be done with precaution.
