Kota District in
Rajasthan is situated on the bank of the
Chambal River. It is bounded by the districts
Sawai Madhopur,
Tonk and
Bundi in the north and north-west,
Chittorgarh on the western part,
Jhalwar on the southern region and
Baran on the eastern side. Kota covers a total area of 12,436 sq km with a population of 1.5 million.
The annual average rainfall is 90 cm. Major crops are wheat, rapeseed and mustard, soyabean, coriander, maize, jowar, rice, gram, pulses, sugarcane, barley, and groundnut. Being an industrial area, Kota is famous for stone industry, chemical industry, Kota doria saree, electrical power generation, and market of agriculture products.
The important tourist sites are Chambal Garden, Kishore Sagar Tank, Chhatar Bilas Gardens, Jag Mandir, Haveli of Devtaji, and
Kota Barrage. Other attractive places include Kansua temple with a four faced
Shivlinga, Bhitria Kund Temple, Badoli Temples, Charan Chauki Temple, Yatayat Park and Godavaridham. Kota Airport is in Kota District.
