Kurukshetra District

Kurukshetra District lies in the north-eastern part of Haryana. It covers an area of 1,530 sq km. The major rivers are the Saraswati, Markanda and Ghaggar. Kurekshetra is a holy place with historical importance. The battle of the Mahabharat between Kauravas and Pandavas was fought here. Kurukshetra is the place where Lord Krishna preached the philosophy of Karma as inscribed in Bhagavad Gita.

The economy is primarily agrarian. The principal crops are paddy, sugarcane, wheat and sunflower. There are 360 teerths of religious importance. Some of them are Brahma sarovar, Sannihit Sarovar, Sthaneswar Mahadev Mandir, Jyotisar, and Bhisham Kund. Sheikh Chehli Mausoleum, Chini Masjid and Pathar Masjid and Sri Krishna Museum are other places of interest.
