Pathar Masjid is one of the outstanding monuments at
Thanesar,
Kurukshetra District, in
Haryana. Built in the Mughal architectural style during the 17th century, Pathar Masjid is unique for its fluted minarets attached to the back wall, built of red sandstone.
The masonry terrace forming the front court was added at a later date. The 'qiblah' (the direction of Ka'aba in Mecca) in the center of the western wall is decorated by two arched niches; verses of the Quran are inscribed on these niches. An attractive feature is 'Chaitya'- window motifs designed on the pillars.
