Supta Virasana stretches the abdomen, thighs, knees and ankles. It strengthens the arches, improves digestion, and relieves tired legs and soothes menstrual pain.
Baddha Konasana, Balasana, Bhujangasana, Gomukhasana and Virasana are preparatory poses. Supta Virasana is better done before Padmasana, Baddha Konasana and Bakasana.
In the word 'Supta Virasana,' 'supta' stands for 'lying down' and 'vira' for 'hero.' Supta Virasana is also referred as ‘reclining hero pose.’
