Pandit Krishna Mohan Bhatt is a renowned sitar player. His presentations of Hindustani ragas are highly appreciated by the audiences in India, Asia, Europe, and North America. With the perfect combination of Gayaki (vocal) and Tantrakari (instrumental) techniques and musical compositions, he creates his individual style of music.
Krishna Bhatt was born into a family of musicians, poets and Sanskrit scholars who for five generations upheld their tradition in Rajasthan. His father, Pandit Shashi Mohan Bhatt, was his first guru. He introduced Krishna to the musical traditions of Senia School. Krishna Bhatt was also the disciple of Pandit Nikhil Banerjee and
Ustad Ali Akbar Khan. His technique embraces a variety of rare and old traditional compositions from these masters. He has performed in major festivals in three continents, namely, India, Europe, and America. He is involved in making an ethno musicological study of the regional singing style called Maand. A special six week music study program is organized by him every year from December to January, under the sponsorship of the Gurukul School of Music and Performing Arts, which was founded by him.
Krishna Mohan Bhatt has worked in collaboration with Ali Akbar Khan,
Zakir Hussain, the Kronos String Quartet, and Rajasthani folk musicians among others. This maestro has his own ideology of music. To him music is the language of the heart. It provides peace, and inspires devotion and love that is so much in need. Music brings people together.
Recently, he was presented and honored as the best musician for 2002 in the Rajasthan Virasat (Heritage) Music Festival held at Jaipur. He has the mark of distinction of being the first Indian musician invited to participate in the avant-garde Music of Extended Duration Festival in Prague Castle in the Czech Republic.
