The district headquarters of
Mokokchung District, Mokokchung is 160 km north of
Kohima. It is a cultural center of the Ao tribes of the Nagas. The two main festivals celebrated are connected with sowing, 'Moatsu' in early May, and harvesting, ‘Tsungremmong’ in August.
The rivers Milak and Tula flow nearby. The footprints of Jina and Etiben - the Romeo and Juliet of the Aos, are found on the rocks in several places in the Ao ranges. Nearby attractions are
Longkhum, Ungma, Langpangkong and Molung.
The nearest airport is at Dimapur (200 km). Mariani Railway Station in Assam is the closest railway station. Mokokchung is linked with Kohima (160 km),
Jorhat (105 km) and Dimapur.
