Dhanurasana resembles archer's bow. In this
asana, torso and legs represents body of the bow, and arms represents the string.
It strengthens the back muscles, stimulates the organs of the abdomen and neck, and stretches the entire front of the body. It gives relief to persons suffering from asthma, back pain, infertility and osteoporosis. It also stimulates the thyroid and pituitary glands and increases energy and counteracts depression.
Preparatory poses consists of Bhujangasana, Salabhasana,
Setu Bandha Sarvangasana,
Supta Virasana,
Urdhva Mukha Svanasana and Virasana.
Dhanurasana is a Sanskrit term in which 'dhanu' stands for 'bow.' Dhanurasana means 'bow pose.'
