Bikaner is located in the north-west of
Rajasthan. It is surrounded by
Ganganagar in the north,
Jaisalmer and Pakistan in the west,
Churu in the east, and
Nagaur and
Jodhpur in the south-east. It has a total area of 27,244 sq km.
Bikaneri woolen shawls, blankets, carpets, and sugar candy are famous. There are ivory and lacquer-ware handicrafts, electrical and mechanical engineering works, railway workshops, and factories that manufacture glass, pottery, felts, chemicals, shoes, and cigarettes. Pulses, groundnut, wheat, gram, rapeseed and mustard, sugarcane, and jowar are the major crops.
Main attractions are Junagarh Fort, Lallgarh Palace, Ratan Bihari Temple Park, Tessitory Park, Bhandeshwar and Sandeshwar temples, Havelies of Bikaner, Camel-Breeding Farm, Devi Kund, Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary, Shiv Bari Temple, Kalibanga, Deshnok, and Kolayat. Fort Museum, Ganga Golden Jubilee Museum, and Mahaveer Swami Arts are worth visiting. Camel Festival, Gangaur festival, Jambhewara fair, and Karni Mata fair are the leading festivals.
