Churu District is located in the north-eastern part of
Rajasthan. It is surrounded by
Ganganagar District in the north,
Sikar,
Jhunjhunu, and
Hissar District of
Haryana in the east,
Nagaur in the south, and
Bikaner in the west. Churu covers a total area of 16,830 sq km and has a population of around 2 million.
Churu is a semi-arid sandy plain, watered only by the Kantli River. The district is dry in nature with large variation in temperature. Normal rainfall is only 32 cm. Bajra, wheat, rapeseed and mustard, pulses and gram are the chief crops.
Churu is a place of regional handicrafts, tie and dye fabrics, and furniture. Sanganer Airport is the nearest airport. The major tourist attractions are Ratangarh, Salasar Balaji Temple, Surana Haveli, Dudhwa Khara, Sardarshahr, and Tal Chhapar Sanctuary.
