Patiala




Patiala, the city of gardens and palaces, is situated 29 km west of Ambala.

Dotted with magnificent forts and palaces, it is the headquarters of Patiala District. Quilla Androo Sheesh Mahal, Motibagh Palace, Baradari Garden, Kali Devi temple on the Mall, Bahadurgarh Fort are awe-inspiring sites in and around Patiala. Art Galleries and the National Institute of Sports are added attractions.

The city is famous for its Punjabi shoes, golden and silver embroidered 'naalas', parandhas, beautiful hand-woven head coverings, and Phulkaris. A prominent industrial city of India, it manufactures a host of products such as cables and tires. The town also is a manufacturer of a whole range of agro-products.

Educational institutions include Mahendra College, Yavrinda College, the Bikram College of Commerce, a medical college, a state college of education, and the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, all affiliated with Punjabi University.

Nearest airport is at Chandigarh. Patiala Railway Station is on the Rajpura- Dhuri line. National Highway 64 passes through Patiala. Patiala Bus Station is located on the highway.
