One of the highly revered shrines in
Patiala, Kali Devi Temple is situated opposite to
Baradari Garden on the Mall Road. It is dedicated to
Goddess Kali. The temple is noted for its wall paintings and icons and has been declared a national monument.
The temple preserves some Sanskrit manuscript leaves (patras) believed to have been written by Veda Vyasa. These leaves were brought by Maharaj Narinder Singh from Badri Narain Temple in Uttar Pradesh.
Large number of people visits the temple especially on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Fairs are organized here during the months of April and October every year, which draws a large number of people from far and near. The temple is also a unique example of secularism. A large number of Hindus and Sikhs visit this sacred place daily.
