Khandwa




Khandwa is an ancient town and the district headquarters of the Khandwa District. A center of Jainism during the 12th century, the town has many Jain temples. Cotton gins, sawmills, and oilseed mills are the major industries. Indore is around 180 km north-west of Khandwa.

Omkareshwar is an important tourist spot, about 75 km from Khandwa. Other attractions are Nepa Newsprint Paper Mill, the Asirgarh Fort and Burhanpur. Khandwa is also famous as the birthplace of famous Bollywood singer and actor Kishore Kumar.

The nearest airport is at Indore. Khandwa Junction Railway Station is a major railhead in Madhya Pradesh.
