Kishore Kumar, an outstanding playback singer and perhaps the most popular male voice of
Bollywood, was born at
Khandwa in
Madhya Pradesh on August 4, 1929. Originally named Abhas Kumar Ganguly, he was also a successful music composer, a well-known actor, producer and director. He had acted in over 80 films. Among his hit films were 'Bhai Bhai', 'Musafir' and 'Padosan'. Besides
Hindi, he had sung songs in
Bengali (his mother tongue) and a number of other Indian languages. He died on October 13, 1987.
