Asirgarh Fort

Gate way to the South

About 20 km north of Burhanpur, there is an impregnable fort built by the legendary Asa Ahir. Asigarh Fort is located at the Peak of Satpura Mountains at 850 ft above the sea level. Historians refer to this fort as ‘Gate way to the South’ or ‘Key to the South’. This fort is surrounded by strong walls built of sedimentary rocks. The top of the fort affords a beautiful view of the dense forest below.

The nearest railhead is Burhanpur itself. This is an important railway station on the Itarsi-Bhusawal section of the Central Railway.
