Jumma Masjid, situated at Shivajinagar, is the oldest mosque in the Cantonment area of
Bangalore. This mosque was built in the year 1790, using the materials supplied by
Tipu Sultan.
This grand structure, constructed using granite, can accommodate about 5,000 people at a time. The mosque boasts of a 90-foot minaret. Another significant feat of construction is its mehrab, a corner in the mosque which shows the directions toward Mecca, which is built entirely from a single block of black granite. The roof of the main prayer hall is supported by black stone pillars. The finely done mesh on the windows and the façade embellished by flower patterns speak of the artistry of the makers. Another noteworthy artifact in this mosque is a clock which has been clicking for more than 90 years.
To the left of Jumma Masjid is the Lakshminarasimha Swamy Temple and further ahead in the same direction is the famous St Mary's Basilica. To the right is Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple.
Bangalore Cantonment Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
