Zanskar Valley

Zanskar is one of the most scenic valleys, located 235 km from Kargil, in Jammu and Kashmir. It is about 20 km south of Rangdum in Leh District.

Spread over an area of 5000 sq km, it is the most isolated part of the Trans Himalayan Valleys. The valley comprises a tri-armed valley system (towards the west, north and south) lying between the Great Himalayan Range to the south and the Zanskar Range to the north.

The place, with its majestic glacier looms and the surrounding woods, presents a delightful picture of nature’s splendor at work. Zanskar has a number of interesting monasteries and monuments.

Places of tourist interest are Panikhar, Panzella Pass, Panzella Glacier, Suru River and Karsha. The view of Panzella Top, the picturesque tableland adorned with two small alpine lakes and surrounded by snow-covered peaks, is a breathtaking experience.

The adjoining towns are Stongdey (20 km), Burdan (10 km), Zongkhul (20 km) and Phugthal (70 km). State Transport Corporation operates a thrice-weekly bus services from Kargil to this place.
