Kinnaur District, situated in the north-east corner of
Himachal Pradesh, has three high mountains ranges
Zanskar,
Greater Himalayas and
Dhauladhar. It lies at an altitude between 2,350 m and 6,816 m above sea level. Recong Peo is the district headquarters. The slopes are covered with thick woods, orchards, fields and picturesque hamlets. The religious
Shivlinga lies at the Peak of Kinner Kailash Mountain. The people of Kinnaur are the followers of
Buddhism and
Hinduism. Kinnauri,
Hindi, English and Tibetan are the common languages spoken.
Sutlej, Spiti and
Baspa are the major rivers run through Kinnaur District. Apples, chilgoza and other dry fruits are grown here. The main tourist attractions are Bhabha Nagar,
Nichar, Poari,
Kalpa, Kothi, Ribba,
Moorang, Pooh and Nako. There are adventurous sports of all kinds and three famous wildlife sanctuaries.
