The largest village in Hangrang Valley of
Kinnaur District, Nako, at an altitude of 3,662 m, is 117 km from Kalpa. It is a scenic place, and is built around a lucid lake (
Nako Lake), and in its northern direction are four
Buddhist temples with stuccoed images, which are believed to be of saint Padmasambhava. There are other two temples housing large prayer wheels.
A rock with a footprint like impression of Padmasambhava is enshrined here. Another highlight is Nako Chokhor, an 11th century complex, which is considered to be of the residence of Rinchen Zangpo, a great scholar. Though the property is in a ruined state, its interior paintings are note worthy.
Nako Lake offers a perfect base for boating during summers, and in winter, it is suitable for ice-skating. Camping provisions are available nearby.
