Ziarat of Baba Bamdin Sahib




Ziarat of Baba Bamdin Sahib is a remarkable mosque located at Bumazuv in Anantnag District, Jammu and Kashmir. The specialty of the mosque is that it was earlier a temple and was converted into a Muslim ziarat. The mosque is dedicated to Baba Bamdin Sahib, a disciple of Shaikh Nur-ud-din, the famous Muslim saint of Kashmir.

This ancient mosque has various artistic and architectural features which includes a pyramidal roof surmounting the square double wooden roof. The structure of the ceiling resembles that of Pandrethan temple. There is a full-blown lotus carving in the uppermost stone. The entrance is at the northern wall.

The Cave Temple, Bumazuv Caves and a small shrine nearby are other attractions in the vicinity. The evidences reveal that the three shrines were constructed during the same period.

By road, the mosque can be reached from Mattan (about a mile away). Mattan is a few km away from Anantnag on the Pahalgam road. The nearest railway station is at Jammu and the nearest airport is at Srinagar.
