Located in
Dakshina Kannada District of
Karnataka, Yedukumeri is one of the scenic spots in the
Western Ghats. Yedukumeri is roughly 20 km from
Donigal, which in turn is about 225 km from
Bangalore.
A trekking along the abandoned meter gauge railway line between Donigal and Yedukumeri is a unique experience and is popularly referred to as 'Yedukumeri Railway Trek' or 'Green Route Railway Trek'. A good number of tunnels and bridges come across while tracking and an interesting as well as treacherous thing is that some of the bridges do not have sufficient place to stand aside when the train passes. One of the bridges provides access trail to National Highway 48. Malabar Grey Hornbill can be seen in plenty, whose specialty is vociferous call resembling laughter. The trek ends at Yedukumeri and another 4 km walk from Yedukumeri leads to the Bangalore - Mangalore main road.
Kukke Sri Subramanya Temple, Kumara Parvata and Sakleshpur are among the points of interest nearby. Limited accommodation facilities are available in Yedukumeri. September-March is the best time to visit here.
Yedukumeri Railway Station is on the Bangalore - Mangalore meter gauge line, which was operational till 1988. The nearest major railhead is Donigal Railway Station.
