A part of the
Western Ghats, Kumara Parvata, 4,000 ft high, is one of the majestic peaks in
Dakshina Kannada District of
Karnataka. It stands as a majestic backdrop to the
Kukke Subramanya Swamy Temple, about 12 km away. The white stones found atop the Kumara Parvata are known as Kumaralingas and they have six faces. These stones are believed to be Saligramams and
Shivlings.
A popular trekking spot, Kumara Parvata is located about 97 km from Hassan and 103 km from Mangalore. There are no roads leading to the mountain. To reach Kumara Parvata, one has to climb Sesha Parvatha. The best time to visit here is September-February. Points of interest nearby include Jaanuvaru santhe - the biggest cattle market in Dakshina Kannada District.
