Vaamaneswarar-Udavi Nayakar Temple




Situated at Tirumaanikkuzhi in Cuddalore District of Tamil Nadu is the famous Shivasthalam, Vaamaneswarar-Udavi Nayakar Temple. Here Lord Shiva is worshipped in the form of Udavi Nayakar. There is a separate worship place for Goddess Pankayarkanni.

Legend has it that Vamana worshipped Shiva to get rid of the sin of having sent Mahabali to the netherworld. The temple vimana is called Bhaskara or Aditya . Inscriptions of Chola, Pandya and Vijayanagar periods are preserved in the temple. Sage Sambandar is said to have glorified this temple through his pathigams. The main festival is the Brahmotsavam celebrated in the month of Kartikai (November-December).
