Mahabali, is a mythical ruler believed to have ruled
Kerala long time ago. He was very wise, well-wishing and a prudent ruler. Due to this, his fame spread far and wide that the Gods feared that one day Mahabali might become too powerful. So they went to see
Lord Vishnu to curtail Mahabali's powers. Lord Vishnu took the form of
Vamana, approached Mahabali and exiled him to the netherworld.
Onam, most important festival of Kerala, is celebrated in honour of this asura king Mahabali.
