Thirugnana Sambandar was a proficient Tamil composer of the 6th century. He is one among the three
Shaivite saints who are credited with the composition of Tevaram (sacred hymns), others being
Thiru Navukkarasar and
Sundaramurthy Nayanar. Each of his works explores various dimensions of the devotional experience. The song that was sung in praise of
Bhavani Sangameshwar Temple is a good example.
