Popularly referred to as Appar, Thiru Navukkarasar was a saintly composer of the 6th century
Tamil Nadu. He is one among the three great Tevaram hymnists, others being
Thiru Gnanasambandar and
Sundaramurthy Nayanar. There is a shrine named Sorudaiya Eeswarar associated with Appar in Neelivananathar Temple of
Tiruchirapalli in Tamil Nadu.
