Thangu Valley is located in
North Sikkim District and is around 30 km north of
Lachen. It lies at an altitude of 13000 ft with numerous rivers crisscrossing. Thangu Chu, Chopta Chu and Lassur Chu are the major rivers in the valley.
The valley houses the picturesque hamlet of Thangu, with a scanty population comprising mostly of migrated Tibetans. During the months of June and July the valley is carpeted with alpine flowers. In winter season, which begins in October and ends in March, the valley is painted in white with frozen rivers transformed into pathways.
Thangu is an ideal base camp for the trek to Chopta valley and Muguthang.
