Sumtsek Temple




The Sumtsek is a triple-storied temple located at Alchi in Leh District. It is located to the left of Du-khang.

The temple is famous for its well-preserved woodcarvings and paintings. Inside the temple, there is a huge statue of Maitreya and is flanked by decorated Bodhisattvas. Secondary deities are also found.

The mural of six-armed green goddess Prajnaparamita, the 'Perfection of Wisdom’, is note worthy. The life of Buddha is painted in an image of Bodhisattva Maitreya.
