Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra




Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra is a multi-arts complex situated at Guwahati, about 5 km from Dispur, in Kamrup District. It was named after the great 16th century saint and reformer Srimanta Sankaradeva - the father of Assamese literature. The Kalakshetra aims to preserve and promote the socio cultural heritage of Assam.

Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra has an open air theatre and a central museum. The museum showcases various articles used by different ethnic groups of Assam. The open air theater, which can hold about 2000 persons at a time, is the venue for folk festivals, traditional dance and drama. Lalit-Kala Bhavan, Heritage Park and a well established library are the other features of Kalakshetra.

Guwahati Junction Railway Station and Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport are the nearest railway station and airport respectively.
