Sita Mai Temple is an ancient structure situated in the village
Sitamai, about 19 km from
Nilokher in
Karnal District. The temple is dedicated to goddess
Sita.
The whole shrine is built of bricks. It is believed that this is the spot where the earth parted and accepted Sita.
During the medieval period, the temple was destroyed by Muslim invaders and the bricks were thrown into a tank. Later the temple was rebuilt with the original bricks. However the exquisite pattern of the original temple could not be retained.
