Phurba Chorten

Built by Late Chogyal of Sikkim Tashi Namgyal, Phurba Chorten is situated adjacent to the Research Institute of Tibetology. It is a huge and towering religious monument in the form of a stupa. Around the stupa, there are 113 prayer wheels with the mystic mantra "om mane padme hum" in Tibetan inscribed on them. The chorten houses a complete set of Kanjur holy books, relics, complete mantras and other religious objects. Chub Chorten, built in memory of trul Shik Rimpoche, is situated nearby.
