The internationally acclaimed center of Tibetan Studies and Research, Sikkim Research Institute of Tibetology was established to promote the research into Mahayana Buddhist and the language and traditions of Tibet. It has a vast collection of rare Buddhist books, manuscripts and over 200 Buddhist icons. The building accommodating the institute is an example of Tibetan architecture.
The museum at the institute has a rare collection of antiques like statues, coins and
Thangkas. The library and museum of the institute are open to the public on all days including holidays and Sundays.
