Patiala District




Patiala District is located on the south-eastern part of Punjab. It is bounded by Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar districts and Union Territory of Chandigarh in the north, Fatehgarh Sahib and Sangrur districts in the west, Ambala and Kurukshetra districts of neighboring state of Haryana in the east and Kaithal District of Haryana in the south. It has an area of 3,627 sq km with a population of about 2 million.

Major crops are wheat, rapeseed and mustard, maize, jowar, rice, gram, pulses, sugarcane, barley, massar, potato, and cotton. Patiala is famous for Punjabi jutti, silver and gold embroidered ‘naalas’, parandhas(plaits decorative), beautiful hand-woven head coverings, and Phulkaris.

The prime attractions are Moti Bagh Palace, Sheesh Mahal, Panwas Quila Mubarik, Kali Devi Mandir, Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib, Gurdwara Patshahi Ninth, Nawab Saif Khan's Mosque.
