Paranur is a small village, about 30 km west of
Viluppuram. Also known as Bakthapuri, Paranur is famous for the
Sri Radhika Ramana Baktha Kolahalan Temple. In his avatar as Sri Baktha Kolahalan,
Lord Krishna decided to come to Paranur and play for ever as in
Vrindavan.
Accordingly he brought Yamuna River in the form of River Vena, brought Govardhan in the form of Premachala and resides amidst cowherds and
gopis. It is said that some Jains also lived in the hill in Paranur, some time ago. The village also has other temples such as Sri Bakthapuriswarar Temple and
Sri Lakshmi Narayana Perumal Temple.
Paranur is connected well by buses from Viluppuram and Tirukoilur. From Tirukoilur, if one crosses the bridge across the Vena River, there is a road immediately in the right. That road also leads to Paranur, which is 10 km away.
