Onattukara is a village located near
Kayamkulam in
Alappuzha District. It was once the granary of Central Travancore. The place has a rich tradition and unique culture revolving around its agrarian economy.
The main attractions are the Chettikulangara Sree Bhagavathi Temple and the
Kerala Agricultural University's Rice Research Station. The place is also noted for alluvium deposits. These soils occur as marine deposits extending to the interior up to the lateritic belt. The main rituals of the region are 'Parayeduppu' and 'Jeevatha Ezunnallathu.'
Onattukara can be easily accessed by rail from Mavelikara Railway Station (5 km). By road, the place can be accessed from Kayamkulam and
Mavelikara.
