Kerala Agricultural University, established in 1971, is located at Vellanikkara in
Thrissur District on the
National Highway 47.
It has about 10 constituent colleges, six regional agricultural research stations, 26 research stations, three centers of advanced studies and a central training institute. Communication center, KAU press, five Krishi Vignana Kendrams and the central library are the other features.
Graduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs are offered on various subjects related to agriculture. The university conducts research focused on increasing the productivity of crops, livestock and fish.
The university is about 13 km from the Thrissur Railway Station and 50 km from the Cochin International Airport.
