Navaneeteswarar-Venneipperumaan Temple




Navaneeteswarar-Venneipperumaan Temple is located at Sikkal in Nagapattinam District. The temple has a 7 tired rajagopuram which is about 80 foot in height. Situated in an area of 2 acres, the temple contains inscriptions from the Imperial Chola and Vijayanagar periods. Legends related to Subramanya are depicted in the form of paintings in the Kartikai Mandapam. It is believed that Muchukunda Cholan built the temple. Legend tells us that Vasishta made a shivaling out of butter and prayed to Lord Shiva to get his Kamadhenu. The annual brahmotsavam is celebrated in the month of Chithirai (April–May.)
