Around 36 km to the west of Gaya, Mathurapur lies close to Gaya District’s border with Aurangabad District. The town rests at an altitude of 367 ft above sea level.

Neighboring towns are Pirwan (11 km to the south-west), Azmatganj (11 km to the north) and Gurua (8 km to the south).

Bodhgaya, an ideal destination for pilgrims, is located 29 km to the east of the town. Gaya is the major tourist spot in the district. Pinddaan, is a function that attracts thousands of people.

Nearest access points are Gaya Airport and Gaya Junction Railway Station on the New Delhi-Kolkata rail route.
