Mankachar

Mankachar is a small sub-divisional town in the Dhubri District strategically located on the Indo-Bangladesh border. It is bounded by Dhubri on the north, Meghalaya on the south and Goalpara on the east and Bangladesh on the west.

Flood is a common phenomenon of this town because the Brahmaputra and its tributaries crisscross the town.

Main attractions are the temple of Goddess Kamakhya and Rangapani, which houses the earthly remains of the great general Mir-jumla, the Army General of the great Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb.

To reach Mankachar, one has to take a 3 hr boat ride from Dhubri. The national highway 37 running from Mankachar, which passes through Goalpara to Guwahati, is the mainstay road communication. The best way to get to here from Guwahati is via Tura in the West Garo Hills District, which is a 9 hr journey.
