Katnee is a traditional basket forming a part of the gifts taken by a bride to her new home after wedding, in
Punjab. This basket, woven by the bride herself, is used for holding pins, cotton, buttons, needles and other similar items.
A locally available wild grass, called ‘
sarkanda,’ along with colored cotton thread is used for weaving this basket. The art of weaving this basket is taught to a girl at a very young age, by her mother or an elderly woman in the family.
