Kala Puja is a ritual associated with
Kanadi Kuttichathan Kavu at Perunkottukkara in
Thrissur District. It is dedicated to
Kuttichathan, a mischievous spirit and a minor god among Hindus in
Kerala. According to Hindu mythology, Kuttichathan is regarded as the son of
Lord Shiva.
In this ritual, after performing puja, the person possessing the holy spirit of Kuttichathan is served with holy water, flowers and lighting of camphor. He then starts dancing in a rhythm along with the accompaniment of traditional musical instruments.
