Juma Mosque, situated at
Andrott in
Lakshadweep, is an important place of worship for the Muslims. This historic monument is dedicated to Saint
Ubaidullah, a missionary who is believed to have introduced Islam religion in the island. This revered person spent his last years in this island. He has been enshrined in a tomb inside the mosque. The sailors on the vessels passing by the island utter the fathiha (verses from the Quran) as a mark of respect for this holy man.
The fame of Juma Mosque is not restricted to this island alone. The religious leader presiding over the mosque commands respect among the Muslim population of neighboring countries like Sri Lanka and Malaysia.
