Ichar is a beautiful village located on the banks of the Lungnak (Lingti) River in
Kargil District of
Jammu and Kashmir. This fairly level and scenic plain is about 12 km from
Mune.
Situated at an altitude of 3,650 m above sea level, Ichar is on the Zanskar – Padum trekking route. The significance of Ichar is its fortress, and a new gompa surrounded by mani walls in the terraced fields. It is an ideal overnight camping site for the trekking enthusiast.
Ichar can be approached from Mune by crossing a tributary of the Tsarab River over a bridge from the Reru village.
