Guru Ghantal Monastery is an 800-year-old monastery, located at the confluence of the
Chandra and the
Bhaga rivers, in
Lahaul and Spiti District of
Himachal Pradesh. It is around 3 km from
Keylong.
Popularly known as Trilokinath, it enshrines an image of Boddhisatva Avalokiteshwara. This wooden structure with pyramidal roofs is renowned for its exquisite carvings and beautiful idols of Padmasambhava and Brajeshwari Devi.
The archaeological evidence found here indicates that this place was a great pilgrim center for both Hindus and Buddhist.
The annual festival - Ghantal, celebrated by Lamas and Thakurs, on the full moon night in mid-June is a major draw.
