Chipshap River

Chipshap River, a tributary of the Shyok River, originates from a glacier on the Despang plains in north-eastern Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir.

The river, to the north of the Karakoram Ranges, initially flows towards west along a subsidiary range of the Karakoram, then towards west and to the south-eastern direction. Later it flows along the western slopes the Sasser La pass and merges with the Shyok River before the latter joins the Galiwan River.

Many small glaciers open into the main glacier. The bottom of the valley is gentle but the side slopes are sloppy. There is no vegetation in the catchment area of the river.
