Galiwan River

Galiwan River, the main tributary of the Chipshap River, flows into the Shyok River in the north-eastern part of Ladakh in Jammu and Kashmir. Its main stream originates from the snowy wastes on the Depsang plain at an altitude of about 5000 m.

The river is also fed by number of snow-fed streams and then runs south-westerly before joining the Chipshap. During summer the water level rises, due to the melting of snow. The catchments of the Galiwan River are devoid of vegetation and human habitation.
