Chhatar Manzil, also known as Umbrella Palace, extols the architectural ingenuity of
Lucknow. The palace got its name from the guilt dome with a covering umbrella.
It lies on the banks of Gomti River and the construction of the palace was started by Nawab Gaziuddin Haider and it was completed by his son Nasiruddin Haider. It is believed that it was used as harem by the nawabs.
The palace consists of a big drawing room, cellars and tunnels. The British had remodeled it and use it as a club. Today, it houses the Central Drug Research Institute.
